Hiking
Hike to the top of Mt. Harkness for a stunning vista of the entire Almanor basin. The trail starts at Juniper Lake in Lassen Volcanic Park and climbs 2500 feet up to the 1930’s era lookout.
Several other hikes in the park start at Juniper Lake, some day trips, others overnight. Hike to Horseshoe Lake to fish for native trout.
Pacific Crest Trail crosses the area (about a 30 minute drive) head north into Lassen Volcanic Park, or south towards Highway 36.
Caribou Wilderness Area has many beautiful lakes within an easy hike.
A paved path runs from Lake Almanor West on Highway 89 to the dam, it's about 8 miles long and is suitable for walking and bike riding. Stop in Prattville for lunch.
